Decan Spotlight: Scorpio III: The Seven Of Cups — The Perfume In The Dark

Greetings Mystic,

The third decan of Scorpio (20-29°), is ruled by Venus and represented in the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot by the 7 of Cups. This period spans from November 12th through November 22nd/23rd. In this decan we follow the scent of something intoxicatingly delicious, rousing us from our mundane world into a dark corridor in search of its alluring origin. The imagination runs wild. Could it be Aphrodite in silk? Eros prepping the steam room? Imagination, intoxication, and seduction are the themes of this decan, but so are the hangovers and burnout from chasing the distorted reflection of a velvety and glamorous dragon.

Astrological Meaning of Scorpio III:

Scorpio's third decan sings the siren's song that enchants and inspires the artist while simultaneously constructing their pernicious and impermeable tomb. Will the artist indulge in the siren's song just enough to inspire their next masterpiece, or fall victim to the empty chase in an attempt to immortalize something that is meant to be beautiful and brief? During this time, these themes are highlighted, and the house Scorpio occupies in your natal chart is where we personally experience these themes more intimately. On a bigger scale, we see politicians, celebrities, ads, breaking news, and even crowd events that echo these silhouettes dancing between the smoke and mirrors, leaving our imagination to complete the message or images we are seeing. Not all is as it seems, yet all that is seen is left as a seed for what can be.

Shadow side: Delirium, sleeplessness, ungrounded, overindulgence, obsession, psychoneurosis, diversion

Tarot Correspondence:

The 7 of Cups brings wondrous works of fantasy and storytelling into our lives. This is a card of true imagination at its fertile peak, and the options and possibilities that are presented to us in pursuit of emotional fulfillment. There is a jaded aura to this tarot card that warns us about "chasing dragons", however. Imagine seeing someone desperately clinging to a sunset as the colors fade into the mirage of the endless night. Now imagine this person refusing to accept the reality of its setting. The thought of observing such a person going through this dilemma would be quite unsettling. But such is commonly the case when we catch a "high" from a big break in life. We tend to keep squeezing the same lemon over and over, praying it will never run dry. Success is accomplished as a byproduct of producing creations that are greater than ourselves, our ego, or our vanity.

The Conjunction:

When Scorpio III meets the 7 of Cups, the window of opportunity for creative success is expanded. The key is to follow your heart under the right temperature of soulful integrity without shame, fear of rejection, or judgment. The stars say, "Create! Produce, and do it now!". Follow the perfume in the dark into your wildest imagination and see where it lands you through your creations.

Elements: Venus and Scorpio Water

Venus is in detriment in Scorpio, but don't let this damsel fool you, for she is the femme fetale who brings chills down your spine with a single glance, leaving the rest up to the imagination for years. Here, we experience transformation through sensual exploration that pushes you outside of your boundaries and basic routines. You could find yourself shopping for new undergarments (for yourself or others), reading headlines of the steamiest new hit singles, or even traveling down the memory lane of your most passionate encounters. Regardless of what may come up, the reminder is to break free of old binds of what was or what happened, and create something new in the NOW.
