Decan Spotlight: Scorpio II: The Six Of Cups — The Temple Of Remembered Joy
Greetings Mystic,
The second decan of Scorpio (10-20°), is ruled by the Sun and represented in the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot by the 6 of Cups. This period spans from November 2nd through November 11th/12th. In this decan, we feel the present sparkle with reflective memories that bring both the pleasure and the pain of the past to land upon us as a gilded cloak of golden light, soothing and balming over any harshness, getting the best of the worst into a flattering creation that is you, in the present.
Astrological Meaning of Scorpio II:
Scorpio’s second decan brings us to the heart of the tough and transformative Scorpion. We
meet the root of the scorpion's sting and its sacrifice. What was venom became medicine, and what was medicine became the health and strength needed to continue on our journey. The key thing to take away from Scoprio II, is that each stage was temporary. The venom (experience), the medicine (rehabilitation), and the transition back to health (for all that is good must run its cycle too) are all transient. Holding on to any stage will surely cause detriment to the wisdom we are meant to inherit from all the afflicted and joyful experiences. And so, this period provides us a blissful window of golden light to reminisce on our journey with quiet pleasure before taking our rest into the restful night in time to awaken to a new dawn, a new day, a new experience.
Shadow side: Clingy, inability to let go, resentful, overly stubborn, victim mentality, escapism, substance abuse.
Tarot Correspondence:
The 6 of Cups is all that is sweet, childlike, and innocent. The irony in the 6 of cups is that we really don't understand these wholesome traits until we are adults, and so this card is closely tied to nostalgia, emotions, and memory as well. Here, it is not so much about what we have given and received, but how we felt during these moments of giving and receiving. We evaluate what has value in our lives based on what has truly stayed with us throughout the years. Could it be the sweet Valentine's card from a friend in kindergarten? The flowers that came to you during the loss of a loved one? Or maybe it is the one piece of jewelry that remains your favorite despite the cost of all your other pieces? Sometimes, the wholesome gift that stays is the one that echoes gratitude from the time someone spent with you when no one else was reachable.
The Conjunction:
When Scorpio II meets the 6 of Cups, we relax and receive the best of Scorpio's intensity with love that reminds us life is still beautiful and that no ill experience was a punishment, but the innocent soul's desire to acquire a new pearl of wisdom. We snap a picture for the books and smile as we prepare to turn the page.
Elements: The Sun and Scorpio Water
Scorpio is known for its intensity and stormlike themes that bring about a catalyst for change, but here, the sun shines on a warm day at the beach just long enough to get a good tan. Yes, Pluto rules the underworld, and when it's under, it's under, and we meet the gangsters and thugs in the nightlife before prison reigns them in to the exaltation of justice. Just as the planet Pluto orbits in its highly elliptical pattern, at last, it too has its time when it comes closer to the sun than even Neptune. This is the promise that no matter how long or eccentric a period of transformation may seem, it too shall transition. This is an ideal time to evaluate what side of Pluto you have been riding on over the last few years. Journaling, accounting, and tax preparation are all favorable during this time, as well as celebrations over big or small accomplishments. The time to acknowledge and be acknowledged is at its peak, so be generous with your kindness in whichever way feels most natural to give (emotional or physical). The gifts that come out and come into your orbit during this time may be the gift that stays with someone down the line in their darkest hour or the light that stays with you just before feeling forgotten.
