Decan Spotlight: Virgo II: The Nine of Pentacles — Perfected Abundance

Greetings Mystic,

Welcome to the very first spotlight in our year-long journey through the 32 Decans of the Rider-Waite Smith tarot deck!

We are entering the second decan of Virgo (10–20°), ruled by Venus and represented in the tarot by the 9 of Pentacles. This period runs from September 2nd through September 11th/12th, carrying the energy of refinement, self-reliance, and the beauty of steady growth.

Astrological Meaning of Virgo II:
Virgo’s second decan softens Virgo’s hardworking nature with Venus’s grace. It’s a time of harmony, artistry, and refinement—when effort meets elegance. This energy supports you in cultivating independence, confidence, and mastery over your craft.

Shadow side: Becoming overly critical or isolating yourself in the pursuit of perfection.

Tarot Correspondence:

The 9 of Pentacles echoes this beautifully: a card of self-sufficiency, spiritual wealth, and inner fulfillment...but with a tinge of loneliness. It asks us to celebrate what we’ve built, enjoy the fruits of our labor, and remember that true abundance includes both material stability and inner peace.

The Conjunction:
When Virgo II meets the 9 of Pentacles, the message is clear: honor your discipline, but don’t forget to pause and savor your achievements (especially with others who support and believe in you!). This is a moment to trust that your efforts are ripening into lasting rewards.

Elements: Venus and Virgo Earth

Venus is the planet most generally known as the planet of love, beauty, harmony, relationships, and more. When luxurious Venus intersects with Virgo Earth, there is further emphasis on the love and pleasure you give to your body, as well as how you take care of it and present yourself.

This may be a good time to nitpick your herbal or medicine cabinet to see what's working for you and if there is anything you'd like to revamp or implement to improve your physical and internal balance. Facials and spa outings will do you wonders during this time, especially if you’ve been busy as a bee! Hikes and workout dates with lovers or friends are encouraged as they’re powered by the Venusian Earth quality that says, “fall in love with yourself, yes, enjoy the pleasure, and don’t be shy to share your radiance with deserving company.”
